Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint
Landscaped viewpoint in Nordeste with coastal and mountain views, endemic Macaronesian flora, and shaded shelters suitable for a picnic in its gardens.
About this place
Ponta do Sossego Viewpoint combines a broad view over São Miguel's eastern coast with a garden arranged on terraces. From the parish of Pedreira, visitors can see Ponta da Marquesa, the protected slopes of Nordeste and the Atlantic. The landscaped area covers about 13,000 square metres, creating several viewing levels and a sequence of perspectives over the coastal relief.
This is a traditional stopping and leisure place, with rest areas set within carefully maintained gardens. Flowers and planting change through the year, while fog, wind or rain can quickly alter the visit. Visitors should remain on prepared paths and visitor areas, take away all waste and keep a safe distance from sections close to the cliff, especially during busy periods.
