Vista dos Barcos Viewpoint

Vista dos Barcos Viewpoint lies beside the regional road in the parish of Nordeste, at about 303 metres above sea level. Its elevated position looks towards Ponta do Arnel, revealing Arnel Lighthouse and the old fishing harbour set into the coast. Deep slopes, volcanic landforms and the Atlantic dominate the scene.

Parking, toilets and partial access for visitors with reduced mobility are available. Visibility changes quickly with cloud and fog, both common in this part of the island, and care is required when entering or leaving the road. The name should not be given a specific historical origin without local documentation; the value of the site is its view of the lighthouse, harbour and coastline. There are no formal opening hours, but visiting by day and remaining within prepared viewing areas is the safer choice.
