About this place
Ponta da Madrugada Viewpoint is one of the best-known stops on the eastern coast of São Miguel. Located in the parish of Pedreira, it opens towards the Atlantic and the green slopes leading to Serra da Tronqueira and the Graminhais plateau. Its east-facing position makes it particularly popular at sunrise, although the scenery remains rewarding throughout the day as changing light reveals the cliffs and successive ridges of Nordeste.
The area includes landscaped spaces and places to rest, making it a natural pause on a drive around the eastern coast. Exposure to wind, rain and sudden changes in visibility calls for care. Visitors should use designated parking, protect the gardens and avoid approaching unprotected sections near the cliff edge at all times.
