About this place

Pelado Viewpoint forms part of the endemic plant park of the same name at Lomba da Fazenda, in Nordeste municipality. Close to the sea, it overlooks the coast and surrounding rural landscape from an area where native vegetation is a central feature. The name “Pelado”, meaning bare or exposed, is linked to the dry appearance of the ground and its low-growing vegetation, which distinguish this small site from more densely wooded gardens.

Characteristic coastal and Azorean endemic plants include Azorean firetree, coastal fescue, heather and Azorean picconia. The park connects with the Lomba da Fazenda walking route, combining botanical interest with views of the coast. Visitors should remain on existing paths, avoid stepping on or collecting plants and take account of the wind and exposure associated with the nearby shoreline.
