Serra da Barrosa Viewpoint

Serra da Barrosa Viewpoint lies beside the regional road crossing the high ground of the Água de Pau massif. It provides a broad view over the protected mountain landscape, part of the Lagoa do Fogo Nature Reserve, and towards sections of São Miguel's north coast. The contrast between the exposed ridge, vegetated slopes and crater lake helps visitors understand the scale of this volcanic system.

The Lagoa do Fogo Nature Reserve protects a caldera with an average diameter of about 2.8 kilometres and habitats of high ecological value. The area has international classifications including Ramsar and Natura 2000. Road access across the mountain may be affected by seasonal traffic rules, works or weather.
