About this place
Ribeira das Cabras Viewpoint lies on Faial's north coast in Praia do Norte parish and looks across Fajã da Praia do Norte, the surrounding slopes and the Atlantic. This part of the island was shaped by the volcanic activity of Capelo and, farther west, the Capelinhos Volcano. Cliffs, green land and a volcanic shoreline come together here, making the stop a useful place to understand the local geography.
The site also serves as a small rest area, with tables and benches suitable for a pause or picnic. The experience is strongly affected by visibility, as low cloud and rain can hide much of the coast. There are no formal visiting hours. Visitors should take care in wind or on wet surfaces and keep the area clean by taking all rubbish away.
