Pilar Viewpoint

Pilar Viewpoint is in Conceição parish beside the small Nossa Senhora do Pilar Chapel. From this elevated position visitors obtain a panoramic view over Horta, its houses and the way the city meets the bay. The neighbouring chapel adds a heritage element to the stop and gives the viewpoint its name.

Parking is available, making this an easy short visit while travelling around Faial. The quality of the panorama depends on visibility, especially when cloud or rain crosses the city and channel. There are no formal visiting hours or permanently staffed services confirmed. Visitors should respect the religious setting, avoid obstructing access to the chapel and take care in strong wind or when surfaces are wet. Morning light often gives a clear view across the city.
