Nuno Cera Shows Images Between Memory and Future

Museu Carlos Machado’s Núcleo de Santo André in Ponta Delgada hosts “Mais detritos cósmicos”, a visual arts exhibition by Nuno Cera, from June 13 to August 16, 2026. The show is part of the Ponta Delgada - National Capital of Culture 2026 programme and admission is free.

The exhibition presents the artist’s visual universe through photography, montage and video, exploring images in which objects and fragments appear suspended in landscapes and uncertain spaces. The work draws on the modern tradition of photomontage while moving documentary imagery into compositions where time, memory and perception no longer behave in a linear way.

In this series, Nuno Cera brings portraiture, landscape and constructed image-making into contact, creating works that combine recognizable references with more unstable atmospheres. Some pieces use visual material made in the Azores and processed with artificial intelligence tools, adding a contemporary layer to the question of what is seen, remembered and rebuilt.

The exhibition is curated by José Maçãs de Carvalho for the Visual Arts programme of Ponta Delgada - National Capital of Culture. Its presentation at Museu Carlos Machado strengthens the museum’s role in the 2026 programme, connecting contemporary creation, museum heritage and artistic debate in Ponta Delgada’s historic centre.

For residents and visitors, “Mais detritos cósmicos” offers a way of reading the Azores not as a fixed backdrop, but as visual material open to montage, displacement and reinvention.
