Lavadias returns to Forte de Santa Catarina in Lajes do Pico for three open-air film nights, from 13 to 15 August. Screenings begin at 9:30 pm, turning the historic setting into an evening gathering place for cinema audiences.
The programme opens with a documentary session centred on the sea. It includes the premieres of Entre o Mar e a Ilha, a short film by Faial-born filmmaker José Rodrigo Freitas, and Lajes Terra de Gigantes by Nuno Sá.
The second night is aimed at audiences of all ages, with the animated feature A Arca de Noé - A Aventura, a Brazilian-Indian co-production with Portuguese voices. The story follows Vini and Tom, two musical mice inspired by Vinícius de Moraes and Tom Jobim.
The festival closes with Claudio Fah's No Way Up - Sem Saída, a survival thriller set in the Pacific Ocean. The event adds a night-time cultural option to the summer season in Lajes do Pico, bringing together film, heritage and a maritime setting.
