Nossa Senhora da Conceição Viewpoint

Nossa Senhora da Conceição Viewpoint is located at Ponta da Espalamaca, just outside Horta. On one side it overlooks the historic city, Horta Bay, Monte da Guia and Monte Queimado; on the other it opens towards Praia do Almoxarife and the north-eastern coast. Pico dominates the channel, while São Jorge and Graciosa may also be visible in exceptionally clear weather.

A prominent monument dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição stands beside the viewpoint and makes the site easy to recognise from around the bay. The broad panorama is useful for understanding Horta's amphitheatre-like setting between the sea and Faial's higher interior. Parking is available. This is an exposed outdoor stop with no formal visiting hours, and cloud, wind or rain can quickly change the experience. Visitors should remain within safe viewing areas.
