Rosto de Cão Islet Viewpoint

Rosto de Cão Islet Viewpoint is in São Roque on the coast east of Ponta Delgada. It looks closely towards the volcanic islet also known as the São Roque islet. Seen from certain angles, the rock's outline gives rise to the name Rosto de Cão, or dog's face. The panorama includes Ponta Delgada, São Roque and the coastline towards Lagoa and Ponta da Galera.

This is an urban coastal stop with no ticketing or formal timetable. Use permitted parking and take care when crossing or walking beside the avenue. Wind, rain and sea spray can make surfaces slippery; remain in prepared areas and do not attempt to reach the islet from shore. Morning and late-afternoon light may reveal the relief more clearly, but every visit should respect residents, fishers and other users of the seafront.
