Frades Viewpoint

Miradouro dos Frades is a small observation point in the parish of Maia, in Ribeira Grande municipality. It is on Rua Cônego Afonso Costa Pereira. Its scale and position within the local street network make it suitable for a brief stop while visiting Maia, with attention to the rural and coastal landscape characteristic of this part of São Miguel's north coast.

The stop is part of an inhabited agricultural area, where lanes, houses and fields all contribute to the landscape. Park only where residents and traffic are not obstructed, respect property and keep the site clean. In rain or strong wind, take care on slippery ground and near unprotected edges. Light and vegetation change through the year, altering the visual relationship between Maia, its fields and the Atlantic.
