Castelo Branco Viewpoint is a small tower-like structure on high ground in Ponta Garça, between Vila Franca do Campo and Furnas. In one direction it overlooks Furnas valley and lake; in the other, the south coast, the lands of Ponta Garça and the direction of Vila Franca do Campo. Access branches from the regional road linking Vila Franca and Furnas.
The final approach follows a secondary road climbing through São Miguel's rural interior. Wear secure footwear on the steps and do not climb if access is closed, wind is strong or surfaces are wet. Fog can quickly hide the lake, coast and road landmarks, so daylight and good visibility are preferable. Respect the protected landscape, remain on existing access routes and do not obstruct other vehicles.
