About this place
Furnas Environmental Interpretation Centre presents the natural and cultural heritage of the Furnas volcano through a renewed interactive exhibition. Its content covers geodiversity, biodiversity, human occupation of the valley, and the relationship between the lake, geothermal features and protected landscape. The facility continues work developed by the former Furnas Monitoring and Research Centre but now uses a broader environmental interpretation identity and programme.
The building includes exhibition rooms, a multipurpose space and an outdoor area connected with the rehabilitation of the Furnas Lake shores. From November to March it opens Tuesday to Saturday and public holidays, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; from April to October it opens daily and public holidays, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Guided visits require booking at least 72 hours in advance.
