Fogo Beach

Fogo Beach lies in the bay of Ribeira Quente, on the south-eastern coast of São Miguel. Its volcanic-sand shore is framed by green slopes and the sheltered landscape of the parish. Submarine hydrothermal springs occur in the area and may locally influence water temperature; this does not mean that the sea is always warm or remove the normal risks of an ocean beach.

The bathing area has parking, a bar, changing facilities and toilets and is supervised during the official bathing season. Lifeguard cover, facilities and business opening hours are seasonal and should be checked locally. Read the beach flags before swimming and follow lifeguard instructions, as swell and currents may occur. Supervision should not be assumed outside the official season. The beach is next to Ribeira Quente village and is reached from the regional road.
