Salto do Cavalo Viewpoint

Salto do Cavalo Viewpoint stands at 788 metres above sea level on the Salga regional road, near the boundary between Nordeste and Povoação municipalities. Its principal view covers the Furnas caldera and valley, including the parish and lake. In exceptionally clear weather, the panorama extends to Povoação, the Graminhais plateau, Pico Bartolomeu and São Miguel's inland volcanic massifs.

Parking and a ramp for visitors with reduced mobility are available. The altitude makes the site particularly exposed to fog, wind, rain and rapid temperature changes; a brief break in cloud does not guarantee lasting visibility. Drive carefully and do not stop outside designated areas. There is no ticketing or formal timetable, but a daylight visit is safer. Protect vegetation, remain behind barriers and remove all waste.
