Pico Longo Viewpoint is an elevated point in the municipality of Povoação, within the landscape of ridges and deep valleys characteristic of south-eastern São Miguel. From this area, visitors gain perspectives over the green relief descending towards the coast and the small rural settlements distributed along the slopes. The view helps explain how streams and erosion have shaped this older part of the island.
Pico Longo connects with the network of routes crossing the territory between Povoação, Ribeira do Faial da Terra and inland areas. The sequence of valleys, woods, pasture and villages turns the journey into a continuous reading of the landscape. Daylight visits are safest, with attention to road conditions, fog, rain and local signs throughout the journey.
