Castelo Viewpoint

Castelo Viewpoint stands beside the entrance to Lagoa harbour, also known as Porto dos Carneiros, on the south coast of São Miguel. Its elevated position gives a close view over the sheltered inlet, breakwater, harbour activity and Lagoa's urban waterfront. Local tradition associates the platform with reused remains of the former Santa Cruz Fort, which once defended this anchorage.

This is a small urban lookout suited to a brief stop focused on understanding the harbour and coastline. Respect traffic and port activity, do not enter operational areas and park only where permitted. Wind and spray near the sea can leave surfaces slippery, requiring care around steps and edges. Daylight makes it easier to distinguish the breakwater, bay and Lagoa's urban features.
