About this place
Santa Iria Viewpoint stands above a ravine on the north coast of São Miguel, beside the regional road between Ribeirinha and Porto Formoso. The platform provides one of the broadest coastal panoramas in this part of the island. Looking east and west reveals successive headlands, agricultural slopes, the Maia area, Porto Formoso and Ponta do Cintrão, with the Atlantic filling the horizon.
Parking, toilets and access adapted for visitors with reduced mobility are available. Visibility can fall quickly in fog or rain, and care is needed when joining or leaving the road. Visit preferably in daylight and remain within protected areas. The natural and rural landscape, defined by the contrast between green slopes, cliffs and ocean, is the principal reason to stop and changes character with the light and weather.
