PROTA review to reshape planning guidance across the Azores
The Azores' regional spatial plan review has a tender deadline of 28 October, a base price of about €360,000 plus VAT and a 36-month delivery period.
Regional planning in the Azores is set for reassessment through a review of the Regional Spatial Planning Plan for the Azores (PROTA). According to RTP Açores, the Government announced the tender on 4 October, 16 years after the plan came into force.
Bids can be submitted until 28 October. The tender sets a base price of approximately €360,000 plus VAT and a delivery period of 36 months. The Government cites economic, social, cultural and environmental changes as the reasons for updating the plan.
The process is relevant across the archipelago. PROTA sets the regional spatial development strategy and provides a reference for other planning instruments, while also taking municipal strategies for local development into account. Its review therefore matters to local councils and public bodies planning projects and interventions on the islands.
For residents, the connection to everyday life lies in municipal planning: this is where rules for land use, the organisation of urban areas, development parameters and environmental quality are established. Updating the regional guidance means reassessing the framework that helps align those local decisions with the Azores' development objectives.
