When
August 9–16, 2026
Angra do Heroísmo will host the 40th edition of Folk Azores – the Azores International Folklore Festival – from 9 to 16 August 2026. For eight days, Terceira Island will become a meeting place for music, dance and popular traditions.
The festival brings together Portuguese and international groups in a programme focused on exchanges between cultural practices from different places. Performances highlight the repertoires, costumes and dance forms associated with the participating communities.
After four decades of activity, Folk Azores remains a regular feature of Angra do Heroísmo’s cultural calendar and strengthens the city’s connection to international initiatives. The 2026 edition marks that continuing history with a week devoted to intangible heritage and cultural exchange.
For residents, the festival offers a chance to encounter folk traditions from several places without leaving the island. Visitors to Terceira in August can add a cultural dimension to their stay and experience Angra do Heroísmo through its public programme.
