Azorean Emigration Museum

The Azorean Emigration Museum aims to convey to those who visit us and younger generations the main reasons why many Azorean families had to leave the Azores in search of better living conditions. This, through testimonies, research, statistical data of migratory movements, their causes, their difficulties, life forms to make known a little of this journey, sometimes painful, mainly because they had to separate from their families and homeland by going to a meeting of the unknown.

The fact that the Azorean Emigration Museum was created is due to the need to show young people that we have not always lived the way we live today and also to learn from our past and, in particular, to provide a just and deserved one. tribute to our emigrants, who although they are far from their native turf, never forget their roots, customs, traditions and experiences.

To those who departed, our deepest thanks for their courage and patriotic sense, because without emigration there would surely be more poverty for our families.
