Ponta do Queimado Viewpoint
Viewpoint high on a Serreta promontory near the lighthouse, with wide sea views from a site used as a whale lookout during the 19th century.
About this place
Ponta do Queimado Viewpoint is on Terceira's west coast, in an elevated and exposed position above the Atlantic. Volcanic cliffs, open sea and the irregular shoreline dominate the landscape. In clear conditions, the wide horizon and changing light across the rock make this a rewarding place for quiet observation and photography.
Access and the overall experience can be affected by wind, rain and cloud, all common on an exposed headland. No formal visiting hours or permanently staffed services were found for the viewpoint. Visitors should use established access routes, keep a safe distance from cliffs and follow any local signs or closures. Shoes with good grip are advisable when the ground is damp, and all rubbish should be taken away.
