Ponta da Barca Viewpoint

Ponta da Barca Viewpoint is on Graciosa's north-west coast beside Ponta da Barca Lighthouse. Its coastal position provides a direct view of Ilhéu da Baleia, whose distinctive whale-like shape stands out in the Atlantic, as well as the surrounding cliffs and irregular shoreline. The lighthouse, inaugurated in 1930, is a defining feature of this maritime landscape.

The area is exposed and gives a strong sense of the ocean, but wind, rain and rough seas require caution. The outdoor viewpoint has no formal hours; any visit to the lighthouse follows separate rules and should not be assumed. Visitors should remain in safe areas, respect barriers and keep away from cliff edges. In clear conditions, late-afternoon light is particularly effective across the islet and coast.
