Air traffic in the Azores continues downward trend in July

Azores airports recorded just over 296,000 arriving passengers in July, a year-on-year decrease of 4.3%.

The gap amounts to around 13,200 fewer passengers than in the same month last year. July is normally one of the most important periods in the region’s tourism calendar, making this movement relevant to air connectivity, accommodation, restaurants and visitor activities.

The result extends a run of seven consecutive months in which the number of arriving passengers has declined. The figures therefore indicate a continuing drop in demand as measured by air arrivals.

In an archipelago where connectivity is essential for residents, visitors and businesses, air traffic is an important indicator of economic and tourism activity. Forthcoming data will show whether the pattern continues through the rest of the summer season.
