Lagoa do Fogo shuttle cleared to prepare for August launch
The Court of Auditors has approved the Lagoa do Fogo shuttle on São Miguel. The service is expected to begin in early August with managed access.
The Court of Auditors has approved the contract for the new Lagoa do Fogo shuttle service on São Miguel, allowing operator Autoviação Micaelense to prepare the service launch. RTP Açores reported the confirmation on 13 July 2026. The exact start date has not yet been announced, but operations are expected to begin in the first days of August.
The tender had been delayed by complaints from excluded bidders, which were subsequently dismissed. The concession is intended to maintain managed access to the Lagoa do Fogo Nature Reserve, where high-season visitor pressure requires traffic control and environmental protection.
Visitors should wait for the official announcement of the start date, timetable, fares and conditions before planning their visit.
