Seven Azorean islands on alert for heavy rainfall
IPMA has issued a yellow warning for seven Central and Eastern Group islands due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Seven Azorean islands are under a yellow warning issued by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), with periods of heavy rainfall forecast and a possibility of thunderstorms.
The warning covers the Central Group islands of Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial, as well as São Miguel and Santa Maria in the Eastern Group. Conditions may be more demanding during intense, localised downpours.
A yellow warning is the first level of IPMA’s weather-warning scale and signals a risk for activities that depend on weather conditions. Extra care is particularly relevant for travel, outdoor work and areas where drainage may be affected by heavy showers.
Residents and visitors should follow updated forecasts and official warnings before travelling, taking to the sea or arranging outdoor activities. With both the Central and Eastern groups affected, careful planning is relevant across a substantial part of the archipelago.
