Six bidders move forward in Azores Airlines sale

Six entities have been invited to submit proposals for Azores Airlines by 21 September.

The privatisation process for SATA Internacional — Azores Airlines has moved into a new stage, with six entities deemed qualified to submit non-binding proposals. SATA Holding has set 21 September as the deadline for those submissions.

The decision follows a review of the documentation received during the expressions-of-interest stage. According to the information released, eight expressions of interest were received and six applicants met the requirements set out in the tender specifications.

The proposals requested at this stage are not final purchase offers, but they will enable an assessment of the terms put forward by potential investors and determine the next steps in the procedure.

Azores Airlines provides air links between the Azores, mainland Portugal and several international destinations. The process therefore directly matters for residents' mobility, tourism activity and the Region's external connectivity.

The next stage will be closely watched by employees, passengers, tourism-related businesses and Azorean communities beyond the archipelago. Decisions in the process may shape the carrier's future strategy and its ability to maintain services that are important to the islands.
