SATA receives regional guarantee as ground-handling sale moves ahead

The Azores Government has approved a €55 million guarantee to support the SATA group’s cash position, as the regional airline continues its financial and corporate restructuring.

At the same meeting, the government approved the terms for selling the entire share capital of SATA Handling, the company responsible for ground services at Azorean airports. The process is expected to proceed through direct negotiation, with oversight from the regional finance and sectoral authorities.

The proposed conditions seek to retain the company’s operational presence in the Region for 30 months, while protecting its headquarters and jobs. Continuity in ground services is particularly important in an archipelago where air links rely on coordinated airport operations across every island.

The financial support gives SATA additional room during a period of change, while the handling sale marks another step in separating the group’s activities. For passengers, workers and Azorean businesses, the outcome will affect airport reliability and the archipelago’s ability to maintain connections both between islands and with the outside world.
