Shortages in Corvo put supply links to the test
Three crossings from Flores are announced to carry 1,300 kilos of goods to Corvo, while a fresh food shipment from Faial depends on sea conditions.
Shortages of essential goods reported by businesses in Corvo prompted the Regional Government to announce a supply operation from Flores. On 13 October, Regional Secretary for Mobility Berta Cabral said three sea crossings were scheduled for that day, with the aim of carrying a combined total of 1,300 kilos of goods.
According to RTP Açores, the island had received no maritime freight transport since 21 September. Business owners' complaints had been reported the day before the government announcement. The interruption to deliveries makes supplies to local shops a concern that also affects residents who rely on those businesses to obtain essential goods.
A separate shipment of fresh food remained dependent on sea conditions. Cabral said conditions would be assessed on 14 October to determine whether Transportes Marítimos Graciosenses could make a crossing from Faial to Corvo. The announcement therefore sets out three scheduled crossings from Flores alongside another operation that still required assessment. The situation highlights the importance of maritime connections in maintaining access to goods across the Azores.
