Horta begins a week shaped by the Atlantic

The 49th Sea Week runs in Horta until 9 August, with activities on land and at sea.

Horta, on Faial Island, has opened the 49th edition of Sea Week, one of the key moments in the Azorean summer calendar. The programme runs until 9 August and once again brings together activities connected to the sea and the city’s cultural programme.

Described as Portugal’s largest nautical festival, the event spreads its programme between onshore spaces and the waterfront. Its activities are designed for different age groups, keeping the sea at the heart of daily life in the city throughout the week.

Sea Week places Horta at the centre of regional attention during a period of increased visitor movement. For residents, it is also an opportunity to meet and take part in a programme unfolding at different times of day.

In a territory shaped by the connection between the islands and the ocean, the festival highlights the importance of maritime culture to Faial’s identity. Until it closes on 9 August, the city will maintain a schedule devoted to celebrating that relationship.
