Energy support applications face validation backlog in the Azores

Thousands of Azores energy-support cases remain unresolved under PROENERGIA.

The regional PROENERGIA programme has 1,697 applications still awaiting completion, according to figures reported in August. The pending volume points to significant pressure on the processing of requests for energy-related support in the Azores.

There are also 1,284 self-consumption registrations awaiting validation. These cases relate to arrangements in which consumers generate electricity for their own use, an increasingly important part of the islands’ energy transition.

The delay affects residents and organisations that turned to the programme to pursue energy investments and whose projects depend on the administrative progress of their cases. Validation is needed to establish the status of each request and allow its follow-up to continue.

For the Azores, reducing the backlog matters because timely support can influence the uptake of efficiency measures and self-consumption systems. The programme’s ability to respond will affect investments that can help lessen the archipelago’s reliance on external energy supplies.
