August extends decline in arriving passengers in the Azores

Airport arrivals in the Azores fell 6.2% in August, extending an eight-month year-on-year decline.

The number of passengers arriving at Azorean airports fell by 6.2% in August compared with the same month of the previous year.

According to Regional Statistics Service data reported by RTP Açores, this was the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year decline in arrivals across the Region.

The indicator tracks air arrivals at the Azores’ airports and provides a measure of how demand for travel to the archipelago is evolving.

The continued decline matters in a territory that depends on air links, and its effects on residents’ mobility, tourism activity and sectors connected to travel between islands and to external destinations will need to be monitored.
