Azores record 3,784 registered jobseekers in June
Registered unemployment in the Azores fell to 3,784 people in June, its lowest level since 2008.
The Azores ended June with 3,784 people registered with public employment services, the Region’s lowest figure since 2008. Data released by Portugal’s Institute for Employment and Vocational Training show a 3.5% decrease from May.
There were 345 fewer registered jobseekers than in June 2025, representing a year-on-year decline of 8.4%. According to the Regional Government’s announcement, the Azores now have the lowest number of registered unemployed people among Portugal’s regions.
The change is also clear against the pre-pandemic benchmark. In June 2019, 7,084 people were registered as unemployed; by June 2026, the total had fallen by 3,300 people, a decrease of 46.6%.
Participation by unemployed people in occupational programmes has declined as well. The figure dropped from 4,212 in June 2019 to 1,656 in June 2026, a reduction of 60.7%.
The Regional Government links the trend to job creation and regional employment-inclusion measures, while stating that long-term unemployment will remain a focus. For the islands, the figures matter because they point to labour availability, skills needs and employers’ capacity to create stable opportunities.
