Tropical Storm Hanna could affect weather in the Azores from late Thursday, 1 October. According to information released by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) on 29 September, periods of heavy rain are possible and could be accompanied by thunderstorms.
The forecast indicates that the system will weaken before reaching the region. Hanna is expected to lose its tropical characteristics and become a post-tropical system on Thursday morning. That change in classification does not remove the possibility of intense rainfall.
Its track and strength remain uncertain. It is therefore too early to say which of the nine islands could see the strongest effects or whether conditions will be similar across the archipelago. Further forecasts will help clarify when rain may arrive and how it may be distributed.
